The VA Fayetteville VA Medical Center is looking for a Registered Nurse to join the team as the Associate Chief Nurse of Ambulatory care. Reporting directly to the Chief Nurse Ambulatory Care, the Assistant Chief Nurse is a self-directed proven nurse leader who provides oversight in the delivery of nursing care. He/she works closely with the Chief Nurse and the outpatient Nurse Managers to facilitate access to high quality care across the outpatient healthcare delivery system.

The Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) is located at 2300 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC within 10 miles of Fort Bragg and Pope Army Air Base. In addition, Camp Lejeune Marine Base and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base lie in the facility's catchment area. The Fayetteville VAMC is a general medicine, surgery and mental health facility. It is a Complexity Level 1C Medical Center authorized 58 general medical, surgical and mental health beds. The medical center also maintains a 69-bed long-term care Community Living Center (CLC) to care for Veteran residents. Our CLC serves as host to the North Carolina State Veterans home in Fayetteville, a 150-bed long-term nursing home facility located adjacent to the medical center. Fayetteville VAMC serves Veterans in 19 counties in Southeastern North Carolina and 2 counties in Northeastern South Carolina serving 76,000+ patients. We are also the largest catchment area in the VISN 6 Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network.
Fayetteville is a city in North Carolina. The Airborne and Special Operations Museum has exhibits on U.S. Army history, and a motion simulator. The riverside Cape Fear Botanical Garden has plant species like camellias and daffodils, plus a children's garden.
Duties include but are limited to:
- Ensures administrative projects, staffing oversight, human resources, risk management and clinical support of the nursing across the Ambulatory Care programs. This position has supervisory authority and control in complex administrative issues and decisions.
- Serves as a resource to the Ambulatory Care Nurse Managers and supports the Chief Nurse in administrative and operational issues.
- Participates in designing, implementing, revising, and monitoring systems to ensure the cost-effective use of resources.
- Supports new roles and responsibilities and enhances the workforce's capabilities through service level succession planning.
- Accountable for successfully building and reinforcing essential programs.
- Assists Nurse Managers to develop work schedules with appropriate levels of staff to support operations. Ensures scheduling of employees reflect patient care needs.
- Manages and reinforces FNCVA Coastal Health Care System time and leave policies. Ensures time management procedures are followed accurately. Is responsible for approval of personnel timecards, leave requests, and monitor leave usage.
- Often serving as change agent with active participation in evaluating existing programs and planning new programs.
- Participates in designing, implementing, revising, and monitoring systems to ensure the cost-effective use of resources.

Physical Requirements: This position requires heavy lifting, 45 pounds heavy carrying, 45 pounds straight pulling (2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking & standing 8 hours - intermittently; repeated bending; both legs required; ability for rapid mental& muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aide permitted). Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
